To mark one’s singularity. Once a source of complexes, freckles are now a seductive and attractive sign of uniqueness that women proudly display. ‘When I was a teenager, I covered them with a lot of foundation. The fashion at the time was to have a completely uniform complexion,’ recalls Rebecca, 27, whose face is dotted with freckles. ‘I wanted to look like everyone else and have a flawless complexion. Today, I love that they show, I’m proud of them.

A symbol of youth. Freckles, scientifically known as ephelides, are small pigmented macules that appear in childhood as a result of sun exposure, particularly in fair-skinned individuals. Ranging from one to five millimeters in size, and with hues from light brown to ochre, they are most commonly found on sun-exposed areas such as the face, back of the hands, and décolleté.

A growing demand. Marty, from the MARTYTATOO studio in Paris, has been creating fake freckles for her clients for several years. Recently, she tattooed the YouTuber Marion Seclin, also known as ellemady. ‘We’ve had a high demand for this for about three years,’ says the tattoo artist, who believes this style is particularly suitable for those with ‘pretty cheekbones or already a few freckles.
